“Right away all the colors of the music have more
dimension…The violins are hundreds of shimmering gold lights, the horns are
cubes of green, and the drums are a bright aqua blue. It feels like I can
almost reach out and touch them.” (Mass, Wendy A Mango-Shaped Space)
This quote gives a new way to think about music. Rather than describing
how the music sounds, the author describes the instruments with specific colors
and shapes. The character is listening to classical music while taking a bath,
so I see a picture of her surrounded by all of the colors she describes. It is
really interesting how the colors are not in the shape of the instruments they
represent, but are in completely unrelated shapes.
